Montagnes Magazine – July, 1987
It’s all here. The account of a passion, the story of an obsession, the adventure of a couple, a portrait of loneliness and the observation of the great media circus. The more people there are around Christophe Profit, the more alone he is. Beyond the incredible mountaineering footage of the metronomic ascent of the Croz spur on the Jorasses, the technical performance of the choreography between the camera, helicopter and paraglider (a brilliant job by the cameraman and the pilot), the emotion of the night on the Eiger, I shall retain a single image. That of this tiny great man levitating, all alone at the summit of the Grandes Jorasses; the camera pulling back and revealing the huge buzzing insect just a few yards away; and the mountaineer who paradoxically seems even more alone. Most of the film was shot live, like a news report, and yet Philibert pulls a love story out of his hat.
